The area, as anyone who’s lived or travelled here will attest, is also stunningly beautiful. We’re very fortunate.

Destined to be one of the copywriters in the Cotswolds

Looking at how my life and career has progressed, I’m not surprised to be working as a wordsmith in the Cotswolds’ heart. My early years were spent in Bristol on the Cotswolds’ southern edge. I then spent 12 years in Northern Ireland, followed by time in East Anglia, Somerset and the Thames Valley. Throughout this time, my creative side was never far away from my work in technical selling and marketing management. It was as if I was drawing ever closer to the Cotswolds in the same way that my interests were pulling me inexorably closer to a copywriting and editing career.

Technical writing and copywriting for the aviation industry

In1986 I returned to Bristol to work for a Cotswolds-based business. Next came four years commuting to Swindon, with responsibility for marketing products made in a factory deep the Cotswolds. I was hooked.

Aviation has long been associated with the Cotswolds, whether in the form of the area’s numerous airfields or the aerospace hotspots in Bristol and Gloucestershire. No surprise then that my move into full-time technical writing and copywriting should be with a Bristol tech pubs firm.

A year with a Cotswolds PR consultancy

Six years later, my drift north continued with a year at a Cotswolds PR consultancy, marriage to a Cotswold lady and the launch of my freelance copywriting business in Cheltenham, the jewel of the Cotswolds. Since then, though I periodically work for clients elsewhere in the UK, my focus on the Cotswolds has intensified.

Many of my clients are in or near the Cotswolds now

Nowadays, most of my clients are in Gloucestershire or surrounding counties. Where once my commuting was up and down the M4 or across Bristol, these days I’m as likely to be heading for Cirencester, Swindon, Wotton-under-Edge or Moreton-in-the Marsh. As a copywriter and provider of editing services for the Cotswolds, this is my patch now and I adore it. And of course, when I need to visit the South West, the Midlands, Wales or even London, a Cotswolds base is a perfect base.
