It's always good to write for lovely people and clients don't come much nicer than the Athena Telecom team in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire. When Athena were looking for help with their second-generation website, when they didn't have the time, the inclination or the specialist writing skills, I was able to help them make the most of the opportunity.
Over the next few weeks, while working hard as their telecoms (or 'telcoms') copywriter, I was able to advise them on the use of copy on their new site as well as on page structure and the interaction of copywriting and SEO.
Armed with SEO keyword research by Graham Baylis of Serendipity Online Marketing, I wrote a suite of new pages around a series of service offerings including the following. Professional SEO research and keyword investigation is vital in any sector, but particularly in such a busy search environment as telecommunications:
As well as informing prospective customers about Athena Telecom's offers, the copy was designed to reflect the strong personality of this ambitious telecoms company.
I could go on and tell you about my thorough fact-finding for Athena, the hours spent crafting their content and the advice I gave them about online copywriting and using words to differentiate their business. And then there was the editing support I slipped in as a freebie when they were up against it for a big bid submission... I'm like that if clients are kind to me!
Alternatively, I could just let you read what Nicky Mackenzie (Athena Telecom's MD) was kind enough to write in her LinkedIn recommendation. It's enough to make a telecoms sector copywriter's head swell!
We met Al through networking and to be honest were very unappreciative of what a copywriter could bring to our business. So many people had recommended him we felt it would be foolish to ignore them and arranged a meeting with Al. At the first meeting he discussed our business and our needs and explained how he could assist us in building the content for our new website. We received a very reasonable quote and made the decision to try it out, we were floundering with our new website.
Over the next few weeks we had various meetings with Al during which time he got to know us, our business and our company ethos; how we operate and what sets us apart. The content he wrote was outstanding! He really understood us and our business in a way that even we didn't. I now join a team of admirers who would completely and without any doubts recommend Al Hidden to your business.
Are you in telecoms like Athena (or PSU Technology for whom I've written in the past)? Or are you in a completely different B2B or B2C field? Either way, the skills and experience I brought to bear on Athena Telecom's website copywriting could work for you too. If you don't have the time, inclination or specialist skills to craft the copy that will define and differentiate your brand online, I can help. What's keeping you, let's have a chat!
PS: will you be calling on an Athena Telecoms landline or mobile phone connection? If not, you should see what they can do for you. They're great (and they won't let you miss a call!)!
What does telecoms copywriting mean to you and your organisation? Do you want to communicate with SMEs like Athena? Or do you want to reach consumer audiences with sparkling B2C telecoms communications? Like the ones you see day in and day out for companies such as EE, O2, Virgin Media, Talk Talk and many others?
Telecoms is an inherently dry and technical subject that'soften written in a jargon-rich way. It doesn't have to be like that. I believe it's the responsibility of a telecoms writer to make your messaging clear and effective. That's fine if you're a career telecommunications engineer. But if all you are interested in is the benefit of VoIP Telephony, the business case for having special phone numbers, or why mobile broadband addresses your 'pain' you may need my help.
That's because, although I'm comfortable with technology (I'm a trained technical author as well as an experienced copywriter), I recognise the importance of turning features into benefits and talking with your audience in a friendly, helpful, easily understood way. That's at he heart of effective B2C or B2B telecommunications copywriting.
I'm constantly amazed when articulate individuals, who could charm the back wheels off a BT Openreach van, write brochure or website copy in such boring, unfriendly, jargon-laden corporate speak.Unfortunately, it happens, and too often. That's why my mission is clarity and a friendly tone of voice that accurately reflects your telecoms business brand. It worked for Athena telecoms and it worked for PSU Technology when I wrote websites, press releases and articles for their marketing effort.
Most importantly, it can work for you, whether you need to write about telecoms business models or telecommunications technology. Whether you think you need a telecommunications copywriter, or a marketing copywriter for telecoms, I can help – as you can see, I've already done so.
Let's talk telecoms (or 'telcoms', if you must). Your no-obligation initial copywriting consultation is just a phone call or email away.
